THIRD CYCLE  STUDIES

STUDY PROGRAMME TITLE:

Third cycle – doctoral study programme in Education of Teachers (for Primary Education)

The term Primary Education corresponds to ISCED educational level 1 (elementary education/basic education stage 1, grades 1–5, approximately 6–11 years of age). 

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF THE STUDY PROGRAMME:

The study programme is multidisciplinary and is organized in the following scientific areas:

  • Natural Sciences and Mathematics

5          Social Sciences

6          Humanities and Arts

The study programme consists of four subprogrammes:

  1. Education of teachers (for primary education) in the area of natural sciences and mathematics
  2. Education of teachers (for primary education) in the area of social sciences
  • Pedagogy education of teachers (for primary education)
  1. Education of teachers (for primary education) in the area of humanities and arts

Module A – Linguistic and literary education of teachers (for primary education)

Module B – Education of teachers (for primary education) in humanities and arts.

DURATION OF STUDIES:

Three study years, 180 ECTS credits

The study programme consists of:

  1. Training for research work, 30 ECTS credits;
  2. Teaching, 30 ECTS credits;
  3. Application, preparation and defense of doctoral dissertation, 120 ECTS credits.

OBTAINED ACADEMIC TITLE:

Upon completion of the study programme and a defense of the doctoral dissertation the candidate obtains the academic title: PhD in Education of Teachers (for Primary Education).

In accordance with the multidisciplinary character of the study programme, the concentration of the courses elected by the student enrolled in a subprogramme originates from that subprogramme, with the option of electing courses (not more than 40 %) from another subprogramme in case the doctoral dissertation has interdisciplinary character.
